Essentials For the Cottagecore Bathroom

Top Content

When implementing the Cottagecore style into your home, don’t forget about one of the most essential rooms - the bathroom. This is where your guests will see a continuity of your aesthetic throughout the home.

Here’s what to expect in this article:

  • Use natural items including wooden and wicker items
  • Go for a neutral color palette with pastel accents that jump out
  • Implement storage to avoid clutter
  • Use a variety of light fixtures including vanity lights, pendants, and lanterns

Use Natural Items

When creating a cottagecore bathroom, look for natural materials to accentuate the space. Look into wooden shelves to store items, as well as wicker baskets for laundry. For sink accessories, like soap dispensers, try to get wooden look items or, if your budget allows, get them in stone.

Where should you put your towels? If you have the space, a small wooden linen cupboard will be suitable for this theme. Or why not get your hands on a wooden towel rack?

If there is a lot of light in your bathroom, you can use this to grow plants on your windowsill. Lots of plants enjoy the humidity that occurs in a bathroom, so if you can, try to get your hands on some ferns, or even some small herbs, like lavender or rosemary. They will also help to make the space smell amazing.

Color Scheme

When looking at the color of a cottagecore bathroom, you will typically find two schools of thought. The first will advise to start with a natural or neutral base color, to hammer the vibe home. Think of whites, creams and pale, natural colors as an undertone of your bathroom space. If that is something that doesn’t really appeal to you, why not try some pastel hues? Many cottagecore bathrooms look incredible with pale blues, pale greens or even a crisp yellow on the walls. Just be sure to avoid modern color schemes, like grey, and the space will look amazing.

It may seem odd, but you will likely want to remove any blinds in your bathroom and instead, place small, cotton curtains. If you have painted the walls in a neutral color palette, like a white or a cream, you can use the curtains to add that pop of color spoken about earlier. Try to get cotton curtains in a blue, green or yellow color or, if you love patterned curtains, now is the time to investigate small curtains with floral or herbal prints for your bathroom.

Whether it’s your towels or your flannels, you can also use these fabrics to add to the cottagecore bathroom décor. Make sure that each towel or flannel is 100% cotton and is in your chosen hue to match your bathroom color scheme.

Avoid Clutter

It is something of a modern idea to be minimalist in spaces like the bathroom and the kitchen. However, part of your cottagecore bathroom ideas should not include clutter! If your bathroom has the space, get your hands on some intentional storage for the items in your bathroom. Think of under-sink storage options, like cupboards, as well as shelves and bathroom cabinets. These will up the vibe of cottagecore and provide you with somewhere to store towels, or to place plants.

If you are tight on space, you can use the horizontal space in your bathroom to hand items. It is worth looking into towel hooks, or hooks to hang baskets for plants. If you are very short on space, why not look into racks? These will allow you to hang flannels, loofahs, towels and pumice stones all in one place. Plus, if you choose a hanging rack made from wood, you are adding to the aesthetic of the room and preventing clutter.

Lighting

One element of cottagecore bathroom ideas is the lighting. To add a cottagecore vibe to your bathroom, you may think that you just need to fill the space with candles. This can work but is not the only option. At the Antique Farmhouse, we do have some options to help you light up your bathroom. Check out our metal vanity lights, which are designed to be placed above your bathroom mirror.  We also have light fittings to help brighten the space, such as our farmhouse sphere pendant light.

It can be worth looking into rustic lanterns, if you are short on space or renting your home. These will add an interesting look to the cottage bathroom, can be hung from the ceiling and will also add a cozy vibe. Don’t worry about fire hazards: you can use these lanterns to place LED lights, which will create the same effect without the risks.

Candles were mentioned earlier but, if you choose these for your cottage bathroom, it will work best if they are placed close together and not set apart. Place them on a shelf above the bath, or place them on the window ledge. As before, these don’t need to be real candles and can be LED ones, both of which will match the bathroom vibe.
