Top Content

Even though many people see our current era as the time of chrome, modern minimalism in interior design, and smart homes, it seems that the farmhouse look, or cottagecore, is coming back. Why? With the complications of life in the last few years, people seem to be yearning for a simpler time. The key rooms to implement farmhouse style are:

  • Living room
  • Dining room
  • Kitchen
  • Bathroom
  • Bedrooms

Living Room

When trying to get that oh-so-pretty farmhouse charm in your home, you need to think of natural materials as a base. So, think unvarnished woods, stone, and exposed brick.

Of course, if you are renting your home, it's not going to be as easy to get exposed brick, so it's worth looking into making sure that the core features of the space are made from natural materials. One thing we would recommend for your living room space, to brighten it and to add a touch of rustic charm, is our farmhouse sconces. Easy to attach to a wall, and creating a great contrast with a white wash look, these will add instant vintage farmhouse to any space, but will look amazing in a living room.

An ornate mirror is also a core part of most farmhouse décor, so why not take a look at our mirrors at the Antique Farmhouse? We have a vintage-inspired windowpane mirror for those who like a more minimalist look, or we have farmhouse accent mirrors to add some room and vintage appeal to the space.

Dining Room

For the dining room, to bring the farmhouse look to life, you need to get a wooden table. You never see glass or chrome tables in farmhouses! So, take a look at some of the options we have. There is our oak farmhouse dining table, which will be sure to make a statement in your dining room, and will pair nicely with other farmhouse knick-knacks like doilies, candles, and even lace table throws.

To sit at this table, we have the perfect accessory. Our mix-and-match ladder-back chairs will offer a comfortable option and, as they will be mismatched on purpose, this will add to the lack of uniformity that farmhouses are known for.

Kitchen

If you have the space in your kitchen, you can add an instant touch of the country with a dresser. We have a grand manor farmhouse cabinet which is the perfect spot to display plates and other pieces of bone china, as well as to put other farmhouse bits.

To add to it, why not have a look at our butchers' block table? This will make the ideal space to prep foods, which will take pressure off of your kitchen countertops and it will really add that rustic, farmhouse vibe to your kitchen, especially if you go for our reclaimed wood version. Just be sure to clean it thoroughly after use!

Bathroom

The bathrooms in farmhouses don’t have to include a metal tub, and even with modern fixtures, like showers and walk-in baths, you can still add a touch of the country to the space.

If you have exposed wooden flooring, you can add a touch of the country (and a touch of safety) to your bathroom with a cotton tufted nudie bath mat. All of the options we have are in neutral tones, and they will add some organic texture and natural vibes to your bathroom.

If your bathroom is large enough, you may want to look into storage options that match the farmhouse vibes of your home. For instance, you can look at our wooden storage boxes, which can declutter the bathroom space and add a nice visual centrepiece to your bathroom. If you are aiming to go vertical, why not take a look at our wooden shelves with wicker drawers, which can look stunning when paired with the right accessories. This is ideal if you share your home with small children, who you may want to keep sharp bathroom objects like razors out of their reach.

A nice finishing touch to any bathroom is the accessories. We have a range of farmhouse-themed items like our glass soap dispenser, which is ideal for liquid soaps, or our little bird soap dish, which is made from embossed glass and, frankly, is super cute!

Bedrooms

Not many people think of how a bedroom will look in a cottage, but think of lace, floral prints, wooden four-poster beds, and natural, exposed flooring.

To add to this, at the Antique Farmhouse, we have an antique cream dresser, which is the perfect place to store lotions, body sprays, and other bedroom essentials. It is quite tall, so for homes that have lower ceilings, it may be a bit of a squeeze!

For the bed, you will need a duvet set and pillowcases that are somewhat neutral, or have floral prints. For this, we have our six-piece country bedding set, which includes a coverlet, three decorative pillow covers, and two shams. The minimalist print and neutral/pastel tones are perfect for a country bedroom, and also give a light feel to the space.

If you are not a fan of pastels and want something that is more neutral, why not go for bedding sets that have textured cotton, like our textured stripe duvet cover set? This includes a set of pillow cases and a duvet cover, which will look simple and elegant in any bedroom setting.

Remember, you don’t need a farmhouse to have the inner feel that comes with the country. So, have a look at the farmhouse and cottage core items that we have to offer on the Antique Farmhouse for some ideas!
